What is the ETA system?<\/h2>\n\n

ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) is a mandatory travel document that must be obtained before entering the United Kingdom. The system was developed by the UK Home Office as a tool to screen individuals prior to their arrival at the border. <\/p>\n\n

Is the ETA a visa?Although the ETA is sometimes referred to as a visa in public discourse, it is not a visa in the traditional sense. It does not grant the right to work or study in the UK. It is strictly intended for short-term stays for tourism, business, family visits, or transit purposes. The ETA can be compared to the travel authorizations used in the Schengen area, although the specific permissions may differ. The application process is fully digital and does not require a visit to a consulate. Who is required to obtain an ETA for the UK?<\/h2>\n\n

From 2 April 2025, Polish citizens are required to obtain an ETA. Individuals planning a short-term stay in the UK who do not possess a valid visa or immigration status must obtain electronic travel authorization before their trip. The requirement applies to citizens of countries covered by the UK\u2019s ETA program. Poland is among the countries whose nationals must undergo this pre-arrival screening procedure, including when transiting through UK airports. <\/p>\n\n

Individuals holding settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme are exempt from the ETA requirement. UK and Irish citizens, as well as individuals entering the UK with a valid visa, are also not required to obtain an ETA. <\/p>\n\n

How to apply for an ETA?<\/h2>\n\n

ETA applications must be submitted exclusively online via the official mobile application or the UK government website. Paper forms or in-person applications at consulates are not accepted. <\/p>\n\n
